AI Governance Before Scale
A board-level view of where AI governance needs to tighten before delivery pressure turns experimentation into exposure.
Governance before momentum
Board teams don't need more AI enthusiasm. They need clear accountabilities, decision rights, and delivery guardrails before scale.
When I hear a leadership team talk about scaling AI, the real question is usually simpler: who can say yes, who can say no, and what evidence is good enough before customer risk moves with them?
Most AI risk arrives through ordinary delivery behaviour: unclear ownership, weak release discipline, and commitments made before operating controls exist.
Questions worth asking early
- Who can approve model use in customer-facing workflows?
- What evidence is required before rollout?
- Which operational signals trigger a pause rather than another exception?
Practical CTO judgment
This is where CTO leadership matters. Calm governance is not anti-innovation. It is the condition that lets promising AI work survive contact with production reality.
If governance only appears after launch pressure shows up, it is already late. The stronger move is to make accountability visible while the work still looks small.
